The Church of The Friendly Ghost and Handmade Austin and a few very cool local super genius guys have been putting on a series of workshops for beginners to novice electronics, building these strange tiny synthesizers, sequencers, and drum machines, some of which interact with each other and sync up through infrared lights, this one may be a little different, but I'll let you go to their sight for more details, i can say , that i kind of hate myself for already missing the first 4 or 5 of these events, i was going to sign up for the next one and just realized i already missed it.
